Eyewear of the 1960s had a way of gliding into the 1970s, where it enjoyed the same, if not more, popularity\u2014especially at the beginning of the decade. Case in point: \u201cMod\u201d oversized sunglasses<\/a> held their appeal through much of the \u201970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big \u201970s sunglasses, worn by stars on and off the screen, usually came with round or square frames, often in thick black<\/a> with dark lenses. Today, numerous frame colors and variations on the standard oversized round sunglasses and oversized square sunglasses<\/a> are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One note of caution: While oversized glasses are eternally chic, they can easily overpower. We suggest being careful not to go too big if you have a small face<\/a>. Double-Bridge Sunglasses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Watch a movie made and set in the \u201970s and, along with the requisite long brown cars, you\u2019ll probably spy a few pairs of double-bridge sunglasses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A double bridge is just what you\u2019d think: an extra nose bridge running from lens to lens just above the usual nose bridge. In the \u201970s, a double bridge could be a feature of sunglasses with a more squared-off or rounded shape, whether in black, tortoise<\/a>, or another frame color. And although double-bridge sunglasses were often worn a few centimeters above a \u201970s mustache, anyone could (and still can) sport this style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round sunglasses of the \u201970s could be somewhat larger than in the \u201980s. And yet, smaller round frames (particularly with metal constructions) also had considerable staying power during the 1970s as a holdover from the counterculture boom of the \u201960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
